Little Wonders

Last night, in his sermon on transcendence and immanence, Andrew mentioned something that got me thinking a lot.
He used the term "little wonders", or something similar, to describe the little things that God reveals of Himself to us on any given day. Andrew said that since we live in a world torn by Satan, sin and death, God knows that we need little pick-me-ups in the day to keep us going.
I was pondering what my "little wonders" have been, and the answer came right away: At my work, I see about two hundred Little Wonders every week! I've been having such a bad attitude about my job, and I don't know why. But I have resolved to try to think of it as the place where I meet all my "little wonders". I would have a harder time seeing the small miracles of God if I stayed home in my robe and drank tea all day and played Mario Kart on the Wii (although as a vacation, that sounds awesome!). Instead, I drive half an hour to and from work four days a week to witness the miracles that each have a name and a face. I am so blessed! What do I have to complain about?
This brings me to two points. Hopefully I am not spoiling a surprise, but it will be awesome that we are going to have a sermon series on work coming up soon in Regen. Hurray!
And two: I want to know what "little wonders" God has been revealing Himself through for all of you, my friends? Let us all hear them and praise God together.

OK, so maybe everyone is tired of hearing about Holly and I and our impending wedding, but that's our world right now. Much of my shower of daily wonders comes through Holly. Whether it is a blessing of an unexpected kind word or Spirit-wrought conviction about ways that I am being selfish or a jerk, God is daily sending me little wonders by way of my honey, reminding me that he is near and that he cares.

Awww, thanks honey!

My small wonders also come from Paul, in that God's certainly demonstrates His own love and care for me through Paul - no one's ever loved or served me like Paul does; every day I am reminded of the grace of the Lord through him.

Our wedding will be here soon enough, that before most people know it, they won't have to listen to us anymore about it... I'm excited but it really does dominate our lives right now, haha ;)

Here is the text I read several years ago that got me thinking about the concept of "daily wonders." It is from John Piper's book, Don't Waste Your Life. (This comes from a section of the book where Piper is talking about the impact that reading C. S. Lewis had on him in college.)

"Lewis gave me an intense sense of the 'realness' of things. The preciousness of this is hard to communicate. To wake up in the morning and be aware of the firmness of the mattress, the warmth of the sun's rays, the sound of the clock ticking, the sheer being of things ('quiddity' as he calls it). He helped me become alive to life. He helped me see what there is in the world—things that, if we didn't have, we would pay a million dollars to have, but having them, ignore. He made me more alive to beauty. He put my soul on notice that there are daily wonders that will waken worship if I open my eyes. He shook my dozing soul and threw the cold water of reality in my face, so that life and God and heaven and hell broke into my world with glory and horror." (pp. 19-20)
